Apply for the Waiting List
Unfortunately, The OPN waiting list for adults with developmental disabilities is currently CLOSED for the remainder of 2024. We are accepting applications for neurotypical housemates here. If you would like to be notified when the waiting list opens up again, you are invited to complete the short waiting list application form below.
Waiting List for Adults with DEVELOPMENTAL Disabilities (“friends”)
We currently have a waiting list of about 100+ individuals with developmental disabilities who would like to move into a friendship house. We have new homes being built in 2024 which means we will have many spots opening up to our waiting list. If you are unsure if you will be ready to say “yes” to a placement any time soon, or if your applicant is too young or not ready immediately, we still encourage you to join the list so that you have the option as new homes are opened. If you decline a placement, you will remain at the same place on the list and we will offer you the placement the next time spaces become available.
Requirements
In addition to a minimum age of 21, Our Place Nashville requires all of our residents to work. We don’t dictate whether it’s for pay or a volunteer job, nor do we specify whether it’s part-time or full-time. Our ultimate desire is that our friends are fulfilled, busy, and positively contributing to the Nashville community.
A list of transitional life skills gives you an idea of the skill sets your loved ones will want some mastery of if they are to live successfully on their own – they need to know how to purchase and prepare meals, hopefully healthy ones. They need to know how to manage money, more or less, although they’ll probably still need you or your designate to double check their work. They might need reminding to take their meds. But they’ll know to lock their door, to not open their door to strangers, etc. People have different levels of abilities on each skill listed, but after evaluating how your loved one is doing with the listed skills, it will give both of you an idea of the types of skills they might want to work on between now and living in a Friendship House.

The Process of joining the waiting list
Application - Please fill out the application below, online application is preferred. If you do not hear from a representative at Our Place one week after you have applied, please email jordan.collins@ourplacenashville.org to make sure your application was received. Please do not pay the waiting list fee before you have had your initial interview.
Initial interview - This will take place between an OPN staff member, the applicant, and a family member/guardian. This allows us to ask whatever questions arise and ensure that a friendship house is the best fit for all parties.
Waiting List Fee - There is a $150 annual waiting list fee. Our list is on an academic year calendar (because of our graduate student residents) and runs from September – August. The fee is prorated for those coming in at different points of the year (for example, someone getting added to the list in December will pay for nine months @ $12.50/month).
You can pay the fee via Venmo (@OurPlaceNashville), via PayPal or credit card on our website (www.OurPlaceNashville.org), or by check made out to Our Place Nashville and mailed to 749 Georgetown Drive, Nashville, TN 37205.
Participate - Once you are on our waiting list, you are a part of the Our Place Nashville Family. Future residents are welcome to join our weekly classes, participate on zoom events, and join our frequent get-togethers. This is a great way to get to know future and current residents. Parents will be invited to our Parents’ group that has monthly zoom meetings with informative topics, and are extremely helpful in crowdsourcing information for your loved one.
